Ending the wars
Held up
Ukraine is not over. A war with Iran has been underway since late February.

Settle Ukraine. Deter enemies. Do not spend American blood and fuel on a fresh conflict.
What happened
- Active diplomacy and public ceasefire announcements.
- A contested, limited Russian diesel arrangement.
As of October 13, 2026, Russian forces are still striking Ukraine. The president announced an energy-infrastructure ceasefire. Reuters reported Zelensky saying Russia hit at least six energy sites anyway, and the Kremlin saying talks continued. CNBC reported that neither government has clearly accepted the terms the president described.
The same Reuters file treats a U.S. war with Iran, underway since late February 2026, as a live conflict and a reason oil markets stopped believing presidential jawboning.
The White House has claimed that Iran’s enrichment capacity was destroyed and that Nicolás Maduro was captured. Newsweek printed that list on September 19, 2026 and said it had not independently verified it. This ledger does not treat those two claims as settled facts. A separate White House proclamation on October 7, 2026 claims a Venezuela oil agreement. That is the administration’s account of a deal, and it is filed under energy.
What is holding it up
Moscow, Kyiv, and Tehran are not a cloture vote. Congress has the war power on paper. A shooting war can run while that argument lags. Forcing a cutoff of funds, or a formal authorization, is ordinary legislation in a Senate where 53 is not 60, and in a House with a majority of a handful of seats. Neither chamber has produced peace.
Still ahead
- Ukraine war ongoing.
- Iran war ongoing since late February 2026.
- No durable energy ceasefire as of October 13.
